Nu To Go, Gateshead

I had brunch at Nu To Go with a friend recently, and loved the place so much that I thought I’d do a little review of it.

First off, I don’t know why I haven’t been here sooner, or why I wasn’t a frequent visitor when I actually lived in Gateshead. It’s been open for about a year, and is so conveniently located, attached to the Trinity Square complex (where the huge Tesco is in Gateshead town centre) – so even if you’re not from the Gateshead area, it’s really accessible via the Metro or via the bus. Or you could park your car in the Tesco car park below, then take the Gateshead High Street exit from the car park.

Nu to Go serves a range of healthy fast food options in a cafe environment with the ability to takeaway. The main aim of the business is to ensure nutritious, healthy food is readily available and affordable, so people can make healthy choices whilst on the go.

It’s open from 8am-4.30pm on weekdays (10am-3pm on a Saturday/closed on Sunday), and serves breakfast and lunch. You can order anything from the menu online to collect, and can also order healthy meal plans online too.

I visited for brunch on a weekday and ordered the multi-seed toast with hummous, mushroom, spinach and tomatoes (£4.95), while my friend went for the three eggs omelette where you can choose your own filling (she went for asparagus, smoked salmon and tomatoes).

The portions were very generous and everything was full of flavour and lovely and fresh.

The cafe itself is very scandi-looking with soft greys and white furnishings. They also have high-chairs (IKEA ones – the best type) and a toilet, and seats for around 30 diners.

I loved it here so much then when my mum and her friend were looking for a lunch option the following day – I recommended Nu To Go – especially because they can cater well for gluten-free diners. I appreciate how they mark on the menu whether the dishes are gluten free/ vegan/ vegetarian/ nut free/ dairy free.

Dining in Gateshead town centre is very limited if you don’t want a Greggs/Subway – so I think Nu To Go is an excellent choice, and hope they go from strength to strength!
