*AD – gifted Easter egg.
If you had to vote between Easter chocolate or Christmas chocolate, what would your favourite be? Hands down, mine is Easter chocolate. I love Cadbury’s Creme Eggs and Malteser Bunny chocolates (I know they do Reindeer versions for Christmas, but somehow it’s just not the same!)
I think a lot of it comes down to the fact that I really, really, really love Easter as a holiday. It’s springtime so the weather is (usually) better and there are beautiful flowers starting to bloom, and little lambs prancing in the fields – it just feels so full of hope and life.
With that being said, for the last few years I’ve been a bit neglectful of getting myself an Easter egg. I think this is because I had a baby four years ago. Now, Easter is just another one of those holidays where all you’re thinking about is hiding eggs around the garden for them to find, and very little thought about anything else. I didn’t even have an Easter egg last year!
Well, this has all changed this year. Just like luxury advent calendars, luxury Easter eggs are becoming more of a trend among adults who want to treat themselves during the Easter season. You can get chocolate eggs the actual size of an ostrich egg, chocolate eggs covered in edible glitter, hand-painted floral chocolate eggs… the list goes on.
So let me introduce to you a luxury chocolate egg that has it all – and is made right here in the North East of England (Pelaw, Gateshead to be exact): the Natural Spring Salt Egg by Davenport’s Chocolates.
The shell is double-moulded by hand to create a thick layer of milk chocolate, while the egg is filled with handcrafted truffles made with smooth, creamy milk chocolate and infused with Droitwich Salt – salt sourced and harvested from one of the oldest and purest brine springs in the world.
What’s even cooler, is that the truffles are the only chocolate made with Natural Spring Salt in the UK – so a very unique Easter egg to have! And, it can be delivered to your door in time for Easter.
I was a bit worried about receiving an Easter egg in the post – mainly in case it arrived and had smashed so I wouldn’t be able to get any good pictures of it! But, it arrived in air-sac packaging which perfectly protected the egg, as well as instructions on how to get it out!
I took the picture below as soon as I had removed the egg from the packaging – and you can see how perfect it is… there wasn’t even a crease in the bright blue bow!
Now, for the best bit, tasting the chocolate! I am already a big fan of Davenport’s Chocolates but having an entire Easter egg of their chocolate – and filled with truffles – was just something else! I haven’t polished it all off yet – it’s such an indulgence that I’m taking my time with it.
I love how special Davenport’s have made this egg – you can tell there’s been a lot of love and craft going into it. I am a firm believer that you can taste the ‘love’ in a product – and I think that’s what sets this apart from other luxury Easter eggs on the market. It’s local and it’s made with love.
The Spring Salt truffles are just fab – creamy, smooth chocolate with lovely salty notes and a slightly caramel taste too. They are rich and decadent and a total treat to have inside the huge chocolate egg of delicious milk chocolate.

Also, I’ve just spotted on their website that they offer Easter Egg Workshops for children and adults where you can go along to their studio and make and decorate your very own Easter egg! What a treat that would be!
