Archer’s Jersey Ice Cream

We uncovered the best place to have ice cream in Newcastle. It’s in Jesmond, at number 36 Acorn Road. Welcome to Archer’s.

Archer’s ice cream is made with local luxury milk by the pedigree Newmoor herd of Jersey cows. Their ice cream parlour in Jesmond has a rotating list of ice cream flavours, with at least 16 different flavours on offer every day! (For a list of ALL the flavours they offer, click here).

You can get a range of different options – with just a single scoop in a plain waffle cone, to chocolate dip and sugar-stranded cones, tubs for multiple scoops, sundaes and even ice cream cakes available to order for events!

We both opted for 2 scoops in a tub (£3). I chose hazelnut and cookies & cream. MrJ chose coconut and toffee & fudge. The ice cream was thick and creamy, and so moreish! The hazelnut ice cream had such a strong taste of hazelnuts and was absolutely fab! The scoops were generous and as I ate my ice cream, I was already envious of those people waiting in the queue who were going to pick their own ice cream cone. So many flavours to choose from!

We also highly recommend their strawberry and banana flavoured ice creams. They are delicious!

So, with a week’s worth of warm weather approaching, get yourself to Archer’s in Jesmond. Don’t suffer with soft-scoop ice cream from Tesco!

Archer’s Jesmond can be found on 36 Acorn Road. Check out their website, Facebook and Twitter.
Their opening times are:
Monday and Tuesday : 11am – 6pm
Wednesday – Friday : 11am – 7pm
Saturday – 11am – 7pm
Sunday – 12 noon – 7pm

Other ice cream parlours in the NE  (that are lovely!):
Minchellas in South Shields
Tutti Frutti  Ice Cream Parlour in Whitburn
Lickety Split Creamery and Juice Bar in Seaham.

New to me, will need to give it a try. Personally, I’m a big fan of Doddingtons, especially the fudge flavour. Their ice-cream is so creamy it’s verging on cheesey, which doesn’t sound nice, but never mind, it’s amazing. Have you tried Spurelli in Amble? They do some interesting flavours and it’s all made on-site. Just the thing after a fish and chips from the quayside chippy…

Thank you for your comment! I’ve never tried Spurelli before, but have heard of it. Next time I venture to Northumberland I’ll have to pop in! You make Doddington’s ice cream sound absolutely delicious! I know they have a cart outside of Fenwick on sunny days. Know anywhere else where I could get my hands on some? Rosie

    Hi Rosie,
Apart from Fenwicks, I think they serve it in a lot of the larger venues in town (Sage, Live Theatre, Northern Stage etc). So; get yourself out for a bit of cultural improvement, safe in the knowledge that there’ll be a premium tub of ice cream waiting for you at half time!

Also, you’re right about Morwick’s; their honeycomb flavour is a perennial fav.
